AN/SSQ Sonobuoy Capability Type Prototypes: Bathythermograph (BT) Sonobuoy, Passive Sonobuoy, Active/Passive Combo Sonobuoy, Multistatic Receiver Sonobuoy, Multistatic Source Sonobuoy

Project Number:

AN/SSQ series sonobuoys are the principal sensors used by U.S. Navy Air Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) forces in carrying out their primary mission functions of detection, classification and localization of adversary submarines during peacetime and combat operations. The latest variants of AN/SSQ series sonobuoys will be rendered obsolete at the conclusion of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Without new qualified designs the U.S. Navy Air ASW forces will be unable to carry out their primary mission. As a result, the US Navy is seeking sonobuoy capability type prototypes to determine the feasibility of producing sonobuoys with the same form/fit/function as the current AN/SSQ series sonobuoy design to address the end-of-life obsolescence realized by the dissolution of the current manufacturing source. The purpose of this Request for White Papers (RWP) is to identify additional manufacturing sources.
